Journey into Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales with beautiful string music and animations.

Hear and Now is an audiovisual performance that is premiering at the Hans Christian Andersen Festival 2024.

Violinist Ragna Rian and cellist Ema Grčman share the stage with animator Astrid Ellensdatter Mork-Knutsen, and they present four different fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen through music and video art.

The video art is a combination of prefabricated animations and real-time animation projected on a large screen. All the fairy tales depict objects that share the same doubts about their purpose and present some of the central themes of Hans Christian Andersen's world and the festival, namely ‘The Breaking of the Pattern’ and ‘The Ambiguity of Community’.

As an audience member you will experience some of the most beautiful music written for string duo, world premieres of musical arrangements and exclusive live illustrations and animations designed for this performance, all carefully selected to fit the mood of each fairy tale.
