Come and see artist Amir Hussain create a magnificent work of art in the park Eventyrhaven, as he transforms the grass into a live work of art over several days. Using chalk and spray paint, he will depict Hans Christian Andersen’s iconic tale of The Ugly Duckling directly onto the grass.
You can follow the process live and up close as the work slowly takes shape layer by layer over the course of 4–5 days.
“The Boundless Duckling” is a large chalk painting that can only be experienced in its entirety from a scaffold with a platform 3.5 metres above the ground.
From this vantage point, you’ll get a rare “bird’s eye view” where the motif comes together: the story of the ugly duckling’s transformation into a swan – inspired by H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales and his own life journey.
From ground level, the work appears as abstract traces and movements, but seen from above, the whole picture emerges. The contrast between the perspectives becomes part of the experience – and a metaphor for the transgressive and pattern-breaking: the dream of finding one’s own form and path in life.
The use of chalk makes the work both monumental and temporary. Wind, weather and time will slowly dissolve the image, reminding us of the transience of art – and the beauty of that which exists only for a moment.
