"In the Garden of Eden, under the Tree of Knowledge, there stood a rosebush; here, in the first rose, a bird was born, its flight was as that of light, its colour beautiful, its song magnificent." - Hans Christian Andersen "The Phoenix".
To mark the 150th anniversary of H.C. Andersen's death, this year's big outdoor evening show will take the form of a spectacular and poetic performance, which will unfold primarily in the air and from a large sculptural nest built from branches. The performance is based on H.C. Andersen's tale of the Phoenix bird, which dies and is reborn every 100 years, immortalised in Andersen's universe through poetry.
With acrobatic aerial artists dancing in and outside of a giant transparent egg, the Hakkehuset theatre and the Italian new circus group eVenti Verticali in collaboration with the Royal Danish Ballet School Odense (Det Kgl. Teater Balletskolen Odense) present a performance filled with beautiful visual experiences in the form of light, smoke and dance high above the city rooftops.
It is a poetic and universal journey where themes such as the transformation of life, the natural and supernatural, danger and beauty, destruction and resurrection are at play.
