Drawing inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless tales, BRIDGES II invites the audience into a poetic universe where dance becomes a language that builds bridges between people. KOMA brings together local talents and international artists united in a vibrant celebration of movement, community and curiosity.
BRIDGES II is a sensory, dance-centered performance and hybrid project, culminating in this atmospheric outdoor premiere, created by internationally acclaimed choreographers. The work embodies KOMA’s artistic theme for 2026 – Bridges and Collaboration – unfolds through movement, encounters and shared journeys that connect the near with the far.
Drawing inspiration from Andersen’s affirmation of the necessity to travel, cross borders and meet others to flourish through connections. The title refers directly to Andersen's universe, where flowers from distant lands symbolize wonder, discovery and the beauty of the unknown – as in the fairy tales What the Thistle Experienced, A Leaf from Heaven and The Garden of Paradise.
Behind the work are choreographers Cassilene Abranches and Alex Soares, having featured contemporary works in over five countries in the past year. Their practice blends innovative movement vocabulary, recognized for its distinct movement language. Abranches and Soares are prized in contemporary dance scene, creating works that explore connection, narrative and imagination while resonating with diverse audiences.
BRIDGES II is an invitation to experience dance as something you don’t need to know about beforehand – but which you can feel.
