Experience a unique and captivating concert as the Danish folk music band Phønix and the Chinese guzheng player SangKa perform at the H.C. Andersen Festivals. Together, they create a new and exciting soundscape where Eastern and Western musical traditions converge.
The concert offers a fusion of dreamy, harp-like tones from the guzheng and Phønix’s danceable and groovy melodies. The audience can look forward to traditional songs, new compositions, rhythmic grooves and dramatic narratives drawing on both Chinese and Danish musical cultures. It will be an evening filled with presence, energy and cultural exchange through music.
The collaboration between Phønix and SangKa began in a raw factory hall in Beijing’s 798 Art District during the opening of the Danish Cultural Institute. This musical connection has since led to joint tours in both Denmark and China.
About the artists:
SangKa was born and raised in Beijing. She began playing the guzheng at the age of five and graduated from the China Conservatory of Music in 2007. She is now a professional musician involved in several bands and projects.
Phønix is one of Denmark’s most experienced folk music bands.
Their unique sound draws on the Danish song and music tradition, which they revitalise with a modern and distinctive sound. Their intense and energetic performances have taken them to major folk festivals and intimate club venues around the world.
