Saudade is a multimedia exhibition featuring video, painting, installation and music, in which the artists Ida Brieghel and Claire Foody explore the concept of ‘Saudade’ and examine its meaning. It is a Portuguese word used to describe the bittersweet sensation of longing mixed with the joy of the memory that accompanies it. This feeling can arise when encountering a place, a sound, a person or a memory that returns.
Through their works, the artists present different interpretations of longing, memories and belonging, and how these are stored in the body and in place.
The exhibition encourages visitors to take their time, exploring its details and ideas. Saudade invites shared experiences. Emotions such as longing and memories are recognisable across generations, and experiencing the exhibition together can give rise to new conversations and perspectives. 'Saudade' becomes not merely a word, but a feeling that can be felt, recognised and perhaps shared.
