Who are you when no one is watching? And who are you when everyone is?
At Flakhaven, Nojus Sabalis – the man behind the H.C. Andersen Festival’s traditional light shows – and the Odense Jazz Orchestra transform the urban space into a living scenic installation in SKYGGEMASKINE ('Shadow machine') – an intense and sensory performance where music, vocals and light merge into an experience you have never had before.
Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s tale The Shadow, the show – featuring a brand-new musical composition – focuses on our lives in a digital age where we constantly mirror ourselves in one another – and in the images we create ourselves. It explores the tension between the authentic and the staged, between presence and self-representation.
With the rich sound of the entire big band, the Odense Jazz Orchestra creates a vibrant sonic universe where notes mirror and shift in relation to one another – like echoes of our digital lives. Combined with Nojus Sabalis’s striking and impressive light show, music and light merge into an experience that can be felt physically and invites reflection.
SKYGGEMASKINE is a moment you can step into. A place where you can pause in the middle of the city – and perhaps catch sight of your own shadows.
